Law firms are the most common places to work for a paralegal; you can start a paralegal career inside a law firm and make your way up starting as a legal assistant and then be in charge of other paralegals inside the law firm.
-Corporate legal departments
They work as a law firm but within a corporation rather than as a private business entity. The role of the paralegal inside corporate legal departments depends on the extent of the legal work and the responsibilities the attorneys assign to the paralegals. They help attorneys with employee contracts, stock option plans, employee benefit plans, and shareholders agreement. Paralegals may review government regulations to make sure the corporation works within the law. Paralegals generally work on specific areas of the law inside corporations such as Real State, family law, labor law, litigation.
-Government
A large number of paralegals work inside government agencies, their work depends on the agency in which they are employed. The most common tasks for a paralegal inside a government agency are: to analyze evidence for agency hearings, conduct research for the attorney, analyze legal material, to prepare explanatory material on the law.
-Self Employment
Paralegals with great experience have their own paralegal business, offering their services to law firms, corporations or to independent attorneys. Other paralegals work as freelancers; this is a new option for paralegals and gives them the opportunity to work for more than one client and from different areas, generally they offer their services to attorneys that are starting their careers.
