A paralegal career is a work in progress; the competition for jobs inside the field continues to grow because the number of paralegal graduates keeps rising at the same pace with employment growth. Because the use of paralegals lower the cost and increase efficiency in legal offices there are new jobs created for new generations of paralegals that have knowledge in technology. As growing population requires legal services, private law firms will continue to be the largest employment for paralegals.

The areas of law that need paralegals and will need in the upcoming future are environment law, sexual harassment, international law, elder law and with the new reforms in health care in the country this particular area will be a good choice for paralegals across the country.

Banks and insurance companies are organizations that will keep hiring paralegals. In the public sector there will always be job opportunities for paralegals, community legal services operate on limited budget and they tend to use a good number of paralegals to lower the cost of their services. Government agencies and courts will continue to hire paralegals in increasing numbers in order to serve the most people at a lower cost.

There are some legal services that suffered from the recession such as real estate transactions, planning states, and drafting wills. These legal services are not the best choice for paralegals these days since paralegals that were employed by law firms that work in these areas had their work hours reduced. The areas of law that are an excellent choice during the recession are the ones related to bankruptcies, foreclosures, divorces. A large number of private law firms are focusing in these areas of law because of the demand, to specialize in one of these areas it could help your paralegal career in the long run since the demand of this type of service will continue to grow.
